Thing 5c
Elona Hartjes has an amazing blog on her website Teachers at Risk. I have found many of her articles very helpful and interesting. A November 24th post entitled "So what's David's story and how can help him?" caught my attention. In the post, Mrs. Hartjes describes a student in her class that is having problems at home that seem to be affecting his school work. After reading this article, I could not help but think about all the students that I work with who seem to be just like David. There is a particular boy who immediately came to mind who sounded exactly like the David in the article. He has a bad home life with way too many siblings and parents who don't pay them any attention. To say that this particular young man brings the problems at home with him to school would be an understatement. I believe that it is our job to help these kids in what ever way they might need our help: whether it be someone to listen, a little extra help, or a hug (to know that someone cares.)
